Celebration of Learning
In the Summer Term we have used our PE lessons to practice working as a team and to learn new skills. We balanced coits on our heads, we held a bean bag between our knees as we jumped, transferred water between buckets, as well as various obstacle courses. It was lovely to show the skills we had learned to the parents at our annual Sports Day. (June 2026)
Caterpillar Class had great fun scootering and skateboarding. They helped each other to make sure they were safe and were wearing the correct equipment and helmet at all times. It was lovely to see them collaborate, have fun, become confident and even do some tricks and get some air! (May 2026)
The children of St Andrew's all came together to celebrate the life and work of Sir David Attenborough, as we celebrated his 100 wonderful years on 'Planet Earth'. The children dressed up for the day as their favourite animals and explorers and enjoyed lots of activities throughout the day. At the end of the day, we enjoyed showing off our David Attenborough Exhibition, which featured various David Attenborough inspired projects, pictures, models and birthday cards. We look forward to a new generation taking care of our planet, much like Sir David Attenborough himself. (May 2026)
We have been learning to look at images and carefully notice different details within them. In Drawing Club this week, we used a picture to write a description of things we could see. We noticed different colours, animals, people and enjoyed having a go at independent writing. (April 2026)
We have been looking around our environment to spot things which have repeated patterns. This week, our class story, 'The Tadpole's Promise', had a butterfly in it and the children decided that they wanted to repeat their own repeated patterns on butterflies. (April 2026)
We have also enjoyed the story 'Dinosaur Police'. In Drawing Club, we drew our own dinosaur police and wrote sentences about them. We also learnt how to write a list. We listed some of the equipment our dinosaur police would need. (March 2026)
Cake for the mayor- in our story, 'Dinosaur Firefighter', the Mayors cake was ruined. We drew a new cake for the mayor in Drawing Club and wrote sentences. (March 2026)
We were visited by a police officer in school. As part of our topic ‘People who help us’ he came to talk to us about his job and the role that he has in our community. The whole class loved hearing about different ways that police officers help in our local community. They asked lots of how and why questions about his job, equipment and the police vehicle. He showed us the equipment which police carry with them each day, how they work and when they might need to use them. We got to look around the police car, test out the flashing lights and even the siren! (March 2026)
The bad weather has helped create a muddy haven for Caterpillar Class! Lots of mud pies, digging, exploring and muddy fun! (February 2026)
This week Caterpillar Class have enjoyed learning to make biscuits. We have learnt how to weigh out our ingredients, pour, mix, roll and cut. We each counted out 5 raisins to carefully push into our biscuits before baking in the over. We enjoyed eating our yummy baking around the log circle at Space2Grow. (January 2026)
Caterpillar Class visit Space2Grow, our local community garden, every week. Here we play, build confidence and resilience, whilst exploring the world around us (December 2025).
Reception had a very exciting visit! We had a Reptile handler in. The children thought of lots of questions to ask the Reptile Handler. They noticed how each reptile was different and used lots of lovely language such as "spikey", "scaley" and "sharp." One of the lizards was very jumpy. The children were very brave and had a go at carefully holding them. (January 2026)
