Governors' Role

The governing body of the school is currently made up of 10 governors. They include Carol Trottier, our Head, Chris Hyland, our Chair of governors, co opted governors, staff governors, parent governors, foundation governors and a local authority governor. The staff governors are elected by the teachers and support staff, the parent governors are elected by parents and the foundation governors are appointed by the Diocese.

The governing body has three main roles; to provide strategic direction for the school, to act as a critical friend to the head and to ensure accountability.

Full governing body meetings and other meetings are held at least once a term and on an ad-hoc basis as the need arises. Recent meetings have involved approving the budget for the new financial year, looking at the options for a new school website and online payment facility, building safety, an update on the progress being made towards the refurbishment of the children's toilets and outdoor play area and working on the School Development Plan - which details the steps being taken to raise the standards of the school. We are also reviewing our own training needs, ensuring the skills of the individual governors are being used effectively and that as a group we have sufficient training to meet the needs of the school.

As part of the Good Shepherd Trust (GST) the governing body are working closely with the Trust and their own governing body 'trustees'. The St Andrew's Governing body is a sub committee of this group.
